Manchester United target Renato Sanches as he discusses possibility of leaving Bayern Munich

Manchester United target Renato Sanches has canvassed the possibility of leaving Bayern Munich if he doesn’t receive more game time next season.

The Portuguese wonder-kid was in line to join Man United back in May 2016 but the deal fell through amid uncertainty surrounding Louis van Gaal‘s position, paving the way for Bayern to swoop in and sign him instead.

His first season in Germany, however, was far from fruitful, with the teenager only managing two starts for the Bundesliga champions since the turn of the year, prompting his valuation to drop from £30.5m to £23m this summer.

And Sanches, speaking to Record (via Metro), noted that his future at the Allianz Arena was contingent on how much game time he receives under Carlo Ancelotti.

“Of course Bayern Munich are a great club and I really enjoy being there,” he said.

“But if I do not stay at Bayern I will not be discouraged either. I will continue working as usual. Of course I need to play more, playing more gives me much more confidence. Let’s see what happens.”

A season of anonymity can lead many into forgetting the talent a player possesses. Sanches caught the eye of Bayern and Man United because he was so unlike any other teenager in today’s modern footballing climate: bullish, skilful, devastatingly quick and smart with the ball at his feet – almost like a young Wayne Rooney with enhanced creative impetus.

And as an advocate of bleeding youngsters, and not just as a United fan, I want to see Sanches play at a club that will guarantee him regular first team minutes. He is simply too good, too exciting as a prospect, to be left on the bench.

My prediction is that, following just a season in Germany, he will remain with Bayern and keep fighting for his place, but if he continues to linger on the periphery Mourinho – who insisted he would have signed the youngster if appointed United boss earlier – should take his reduced price-tag into serious consideration.
