Atletico Madrid offering £22m for Premier League star

CHELSEA are set to suffer a major financial loss on Diego Costa this summer – with Atletico Madrid reportedly offering just £22million.

The Blues striker is determined to secure a return to his former club, despite their transfer ban.

With Antonio Conte having told Costa he is not part of his plans, a move to Atletico is being seeked.

The 28-year-old was subject of interest from China in January, when Tianjin Quanjian were ready to pay £76m.

But according to the Mirror, Atletico are trying to re-sign Costa for less than a third of that price.

The Spanish giants are offering £22m plus add-ons, but Chelsea are likely to insist on a higher fee.

Costa is prepared to rejoin Atletico, even though he would not be able to play until January ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

The Spain international will be sold as there is no chance of a resolution at Stamford Bridge.

And Costa’s representatives are due to hold talks with Chelsea this week.

The striker is meat to be back training next week, so he wants his future resolved before then.

Diego Simeone is convinced Costa will end up back at Atletico.

With Costa on his way out of west London, Tammy Abraham allowed to go on loan to Swansea and Bertrand Traore sold to Lyon, Antonio Conte is in need of firepower up front.

Romelu Lukaku is still being pursued but a deal is yet to be agreed with Everton.

While Michy Batshuayi’s future is also up in the air at Chelsea, he will not be allowed to leave while the club are so short of striking options.
