Real Betis midfielder Dani Ceballos has reportedly agreed to join Real Madrid – and his transfer could be confirmed by Monday.

According to AS, Madrid gave Ceballos a 24-hour ultimatum about joining them, which was quickly followed by the Spain Under-21 international informing them “bluntly” that he wanted them.

Consequently, the starlet’s agency “intensified” their talks with Madrid general manager Jose Angel Sanchez over personal terms.

Indeed, the newspaper believes his switch could be announced as early as Sunday, although Monday is a more realistic date.

Ceballos is expected to agree a contract for five or six years, with AS noting Los Blancos see him “as the perfect replacement for Luka Modric”.

Barcelona are also said to have stepped up their pursuit of the 22-year-old after their difficulties in signing Marco Verratti, but the publication believes they arrived too late on the scene.

Although Ceballos’ release clause stands at €15m, Madrid are likely to pay between €17m and €20m so they can spread the cost in instalments.
