Conte makes request to sign Alvaro Morata

Antonio Conte is aware the season is drawing ever closer and still there is a huge question mark as to who will be Chelsea’s leading striker heading into next season.

Having already informed Diego Costa that he is not part of the club’s plans moving forward, Chelsea have seen their top target Romelu Lukaku join Manchester United, sending them back to square one in their pursuit.

Eager to bring in perhaps a more physical focal point to lead the line, Conte has made an ‘express request’ to Chelsea to go and sign Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, according to Marca, as reported by Sport Witness.

With a proposed transfer to Manchester United now uncertain due to Lukaku’s arrival at Old Trafford, the race to sign Morata is now wide open and Chelsea are ready to pounce.

Conte brought Morata to Serie A with Juventus and is clearly a huge fan of the Spaniard and now wants him to be their leading man in attack.

It’s reported that Conte has always preferred the Blues to target Morata, but the club were eager to bring Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge. Now, with the situation how it is, their hands may be tied on this one.

Chelsea may be unwilling to splash out on another big-money striker who will be among the club’s top earners with Diego Costa still at the club, but with Manchester United now out of the race, the Blues seemingly have a clear run at Morata and they can’t afford to let another target slip through their fingers.
