Robert Pires believes Monaco and France midfielder Thomas Lemar has the ‘right profile’ to play for Arsenal.

The Gunners have made the 21-year-old one of their top targets this summer after he helped Monaco win Ligue 1 last season.

Despite already seeing multiple bids rejected for Lemar, Wenger is still hopeful of capturing his signature in a deal that could cost more than £50million.

Lemar scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists during the 2016-17 campaign and former Arsenal star Pires insists he would be a valuable addition at the Emirates.

‘I love him as a player,’ the Frenchman told Sky Sports when asked about Lemar. ‘For me, he’s one of the best French players there is.

‘He can play on the left, he can play on the right, he can score goals and he can make assists.

‘Lemar is the kind of player who can make a difference.

‘He has the right profile to play for Arsenal, definitely. I hope for him and for Arsenal that it happens.’

Lemar’s potential arrival in north London could pave the way for Alexis Sanchez’s summer departure after he made it clear he wanted to feature in the Champions League.
