Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Barcelona forward Neymar is linked with a move to Man Utd.
Manchester United are being tipped to renew their interest in Neymar with the £175m-rated forward considering a sensational move away from Barcelona this summer, according to a report in the Mirror.
Neymar has developed in to one of the best players in the world since joining Barca from Santos in 2013 having scored more than 100 goals and setting up a further 77 to help win a whole host of honours including 2 La Liga titles and the Champions League.
However, the Brazilian international is yet to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or as he’s been forced to sit back and watch Cristiano Ronaldo and team-mate Lionel Messi dominate the award for the past decade.
It seems Neymar is now growing increasingly restless at the Nou Camp as the Mirror are citing a report from Sport that claims he’s considering leaving Barca on the advice of his advisers who feel it’s necessary for him to step out of Messi’s shadow.
The Spanish publication suggests Neymar is ready to accept a new challenge as he wants to be the main man and prove he’s the best player on the planet, and a move to England could be on the cards.
The Mirror claim that Jose Mourinho held talks with Neymar at the end of last season about a potential move to United and have tipped the Manchester giants to step-up their interest in wake of these latest reports.
Mourinho has already splashed out £75m on Romelu Lukaku but with doubts surrounding the future of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney off to Everton United are likely to be in the market for another forward.
Obviously Neymar would be a sensational signing if they could lure him to Old Trafford but Barca are unlikely to sell unless they have to so the newspaper says United may have to trigger his £175m release clause if they want to get a deal agreed.
United are one of the few clubs who could afford to pay that kind of money so a transfer could be a realistic possibility if Neymar if open to playing in the Premier League.
However, the Mirror claim United will face stiff competition from Paris Saint-Germain as the French outfit look to make a statement in the transfer market after missing out on the Ligue 1 title last season.
We’ll have to wait and see if either club is willing to stump up the £175m that’s required to prise Neymar away from Barca but I’d love to see him playing here in England so hopefully United are prepared to pull-off what would be one of the most stunning transfers in recent history.
