THE seeds to two huge transfer deals – including the one that took Neymar to PSG – were sown at Lionel Messi’s wedding, it has sensationally been claimed.
Spanish newspaper Marca say Neymar cooked up his plan with Dani Alves to both leave their respective clubs to join PSG – on the day Messi tied the knot.
Neymar, 25, last week completed a world-record £200million move from Barcelona to move to the French giants.
Weeks before, he’d made a brief appearance at Messi’s wedding along with Alves before both headed to the Goiania festival in Brazil.
They held long talks between each other where they decided they wanted to link up again, having done so at Barca before Alves quit for Juventus.
It left Alves to negotiate a move to PSG despite being on course to initially join Manchester City before a late change of heart.
Marca say the initial plan was for Neymar to play another season at Barca before deciding his future at the World Cup.
But at the wedding both players decided that no matter what Barcelona tried to do, PSG was their destination.
While Alves moved for nothing, the Neymar deal smashed the previous record set when Paul Pogba returned to Manchester United from Juventus for £89m last summer.
Neymar will earn £40.7m a year – equating to £782,000 a week – before tax from the initial five-year deal.
Neymar said he has joined “one of the most ambitious clubs in Europe”.
“Paris St-Germain’s ambition attracted me to the club, along with the passion and the energy this brings,” he added.
“I feel ready to take the challenge. From today, I will do everything I can to help my new team-mates.”
