Spanish giants FC Barcelona and Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United are stepping up their interest in Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil as the German international weighs his options to sort out his future with the North London side.
The German international is said to be inclined towards joining Barcelona if he moves to Spain but if he decides to stay in England, he is said to prefer Manchester United. Ozil’s deal with the Gunners is due to expire next summer.
There are still chances that Ozil could end up staying at Arsenal despite no contract extension yet offered to the player after his new contract talks came to a halt in February.
The midfielder recently stated that he has not rejected any contract offer from Arsenal as was reported in the media although Barcelona and Manchester United seem to be realistic options for the German ace.
Mourinho is trying to use his influence to convince Ozil to join United as the Portuguese manager was heading the Real Madrid team with Ozil as an integral part of the Los Blancos’ side.
Contract negotiations between Arsenal and Ozil were on at the beginning of this season and it is said that chief transfer negotiator Dick Law, who helped bring the German from Madrid to Arsenal in 2013, is still associated with the club despite him leaving them at the end of September.
