Francesco Totti claims Cristiano Ronaldo is ahead of the pack in the Ballon d’Or race. The Portugese star had an excellent season with Real Madrid, last term, bagging the UEFA Champions League and La Liga titles.

In the knockout stages of the Champions League, Cristiano Ronaldo scored two match-winning hat-tricks – first against Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals, and again against Atletico Madrid in the semi-final.

Roma and Italy legend, Totti, has kept Cristiano ahead for all the reasons mentioned above but also acknowledged the brilliance of Neymar and Lionel Messi.

“First of all, we are talking about three footballing aliens,” he explained to FIFA.com, reported Daily Star.

“I must say that we always respected each other on and off the field. But I think that, in the end, Ronaldo is ahead of the others. He had an amazing season and also accomplished all of his goals with the most prestigious of teams.”

Talking about the best coach, Totti tipped Zidane to snatch the award for winning almost everything last season.

He continued: “Despite the extraordinary job of [Antonio] Conte and [Massimiliano] Allegri, I think [Zinedine] Zidane is the favourite for the same reasons as Cristiano Ronaldo: he won everything the last season.”

As for the title of the best goalkeeper, Totti thought Keylor Navas and Gianluigi Buffon could be the last men standing.

“In the end, I think the two of them will be competing for it. I think Gianluigi Buffon has a very good chance of winning it. He’s been the best individually, but also his team reached the Champions League final – the same as Keylor Navas,” he concluded.
