Florentino Perez has commented on Paris Saint-Germain’s spending power on players, saying he doesn’t know how they have accomplished it.

“I don’t know how they’ve done it and I don’t want to criticise a friendly club like PSG,” said Perez in an exclusive interview with El Espanyol.

“But you have to comply with Financial Fair Play, like everyone else, and I suppose if they have done so then it is because they’ve been able to.”

The Real Madrid President also confirmed that Los Blancos were interested in signing Kylian Mbappe from Monaco before his move to the French capital.

“We thought about Mbappe last year but we have a pretty complete team. He is very young and has many years ahead of him, and in that sense I think he made a good decision.

“He is at a very important club, in his own city, and it wasn’t easy to bring a player here who promises a lot.

“But he is very young and maybe needs a club like PSG to play more often.”

Perez also spoke of the five-point disadvantage in the table Madrid have with leaders Barcelona at this early stage of the season.

“It’s only just started, we are in the best league in Europe, and today there are lots of teams with great coaches and players.

“The standard is very high, both physically and tactically and all the games are difficult.”

Finally, he was asked about Gerard Pique’s role in the national team following the controversy surrounding the independence referendum in Catalonia.

“I think all players should represent La Roja if they believe in it, are united, and create a good atmosphere.

“And, to tell you the truth, I’ve seen that in the last few games. We’ve qualified for Russian and what we must do now is sustain that atmosphere,” he concluded.
