Barcelona is doing their due diligence on four European defenders as they look to overhaul their aging defensive corps in the next two transfer windows. It’s no secret that Barcelona remains one of the older clubs in Champions League, but Ernesto Valverde thinks it’s time to get younger.

They’ve already secured the services of youthful Yerry Mina from Palmeiras for €9 million, in a deal that’s set to take effect at the end of the season. Now, Valverde is looking to add defenders with European experience.

Matthijs De Ligt of Ajax, Stefan De Vrij of Lazio, Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli, and Davinson Sanchez of Tottenham have all been shortlisted by the executives at Nou Camp. Of those, De Ligt seems to be the most alluring as his age (18 years old) and price ~€20 million portend to a potentially great value purchase, per Goal.

While Sanchez, his former teammate at Ajax, seems to have the highest upside, his purchase for €42 million by Tottenham will certainly make acquiring him a pricey proposition.
