Roma without three key players against Chelsea

Roma right-back Bruno Peres appears prepared to miss his club’s momentous match against Chelsea on Tuesday. The Brazilian went down on Saturday holding his right thigh during the Giallorossi’s 1-0 victory over Bologna.

The loss of Bruno Peres may be crushing for Roma, as they lost first-choice right back Rick Karsdorp in his season debut last Wednesday to a torn ACL. With the losses of both, it’s likely that Alessandro Florenzi – himself recently recovered from a pair of ACL tears – will need to fill the vacant role, but without any clarity who would play in his stead.

His counterpart, Gregoire Defrel is also in doubt after leaving Saturday’s match with an ankle injury.

Roma forward Patrik Schick continues to struggle with injuries in his debut season in the Italian capital as he’s now set to miss his club’s Champions League clash with Chelsea.

The ex-Sampdoria starlet continues to feel pain when he kicks, and will not be called upon by manager Eusebio Di Francesco. He’s only played 15 minutes this season, and fans are getting restless. No doubt he is too.

Fortunately for the Giallorossi, it’s looking more and more likely that stalwart defender Kostas Manolas will make his return on Tuesday from a hamstring injury which kept him out of their thrilling 3-3 draw in the first matchup.

The teams go head-to-head for the top of Champions League group C. Chelsea can take a commanding five point lead with a victory, while Roma can claim the top spot with three points.
