Atletico Madrid have made contact with Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil of joining them next summer.
The German’s current deal expires at the end of the season and he is free to negotiate with foreign clubs in January.
Ozil has refused to sign a new contract at the Emirates and looks set to depart when his current deal expires.
Atletico Madrid have informed Mesut Ozil of their interest to bring him to Spanish capital next summer.
Ozil is set to become a free transfer in free agent next summer, with his contract set to expire then.
Therefore, Atletico are hoping to negotiate a deal in January which would see the midfielder join them for nothing in the summer.
It is believed that they will offer him £200k-a-week, along with a huge signing on bonus to persuade him.
The Gunners had attempted to offer him a similar wage, however, the player was demanded £330k-a-week to stay.
Arsenal are not the only club unwilling to match his demands and the player is set to reduce his demands in order to secure a move elsewhere.
With Alexis Sanchez in a similar predicament, Arsenal are set to offload the pair in January to avoid losing them for free.
The duo are free to leave next summer when their current contracts expire and with neither showing any indications of signing a new one.
Arsenal are now believed to be keen to sell Ozil in January for a fee, although the player could negotiate a deal with a foreign club instead.
This would benefit the player most, with the prospect of receiving a huge signing on fee for joining as a free agent.
Madrid are hoping to sign a marquee player in order to appease the fans and give the squad a lift.
Atletico Madrid are however facing the prospect of losing a number of key players with Antoine Griezmann, Yannick Carrasco and Saul Niguez set to depart.
