Monday’s SPORT front cover appeared with a horrifying headline: ‘Umtiti danger’
The Catalan newspaper claims Samuel Umtiti’s Barcelona future is in danger. The Frenchman has already received plenty of offers from several European top clubs, including Manchester United.
The negotiations between Barcelona and the player’s agent are not going well. Umtiti wants to earn €9m per year, but the Catalans cannot agree on such terms. Jose Mourinho, meanwhile, is happy to provide this salary.
Another issue is Umtiti’s low release clause – just of €60m. Almost every top club can afford it and thus steal the valuable defender just under Barcelona’s nose.
Finally, Barcelona bosses are not fans of Samuel Umtiti’s agent – his own brother Yannick Umtiti. The tensions between the sides may actually result in the Frenchman’s exit.
