Speaking after Real Madrid’s Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain earlier this year, captain Sergio Ramos hinted that he wouldn’t be surprised if coach Zinedine Zidane departed.

It is a prophecy which has came to light this week after the Frenchman announced on Thursday that he would not remain in charge next season.

Following the news, it brought to mind statements that Ramos made in the mixed zone on February 14 after Real had beaten PSG 3-1 in the first leg of their round of 16 tie.

“Perhaps he will win the Champions League again and then want a break, that is a possibility,” Ramos told reporters.

“Everyone takes for granted that if he wins it then he’ll stay but he might want to have a rest for a little bit, you never know.”

A brace from Cristiano Ronaldo that night and late goal from Marcelo sent Real on the way to another continental title thanks to their 3-1 victory against Unai Emery’s men.
