Cristiano Ronaldo was enjoying a week of holiday in Marbella when he learned the news of Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid resignation and the player has been left shattered by the news.
With the departures of friends like Pepe, Fabio Coentrao and James Rodriguez, Ronaldo was already increasingly alone in the dressing room and now he is even more isolated given that the coach he had a good relationship with has left too.
The No.7 admired Zidane as both a player and as coach, especially thanks to the way the Frenchman gave Ronaldo rest at the right moments of the season, and expressed his feelings on social media after the announcement.
“All I feel is pride at having been your player,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Coach, thanks for so much.”
It remains to be seen how Zidane leaving will affect Ronaldo’s own future, as he is now less linked to Real Madrid as he was with the Frenchman there, while at the same time he will know that Florentino Perez cannot allow his star coach and his star player to both leave in the same summer.
Perhaps this development will help Ronaldo in terms of feeling more valued by the club.
