A young footballer was once considered more than Lionel Messi, he is his ex-best friend, Victor Vazquez.
Vazquez was Messi’s closest friend at Barcelona’s youth academy, and according to Cesc Fabregas, the pair were competing who was the best player in scoring more goals.

“I remember Messi and Victor were undoubtedly the two best players in our team. Sometimes, they competed against one another. If one scored four goals in a match, the other scored five, “Fabregas said.
Even Vazquez once said, “People talked more about me than about Messi.”
So what exactly happened to Vazquez? Obviously, he was among the youngest talents that at that time people considered him better than Messi.
But Vazquez managed to appear for the first team in Barcelona only three times – once in La Liga and twice in the Champions League – and was mostly in the reserve team. He scored a goal under Pep Guardiola’s lead against Rubin Kazani in 2010 after returning from a knee injury. At that moment it seemed that the Spaniard could have a future.
However, the injuries and opportunities to show himself made Vazquez join Club Brugge in 2011. His knee injury two years ago had so much impact that he could make the prefered moves.
But he did not lose the vision and wisdom in the game, as Vazquez enjoyed four successful years in Belgium, declaed the player of the year in his last season there.
In 2015 he moved to Cruz Azul in Mexico, but stayed only one year, making 23 appearances, during which he scored only one goal and made an assistant.
The MLS club Toronto FC knocked on the door at the beginning of 2017, and is exactly Canada where Vazquez has regained his form, scoring 10 goals and making 11 assists in his first season.
Vazquez has never fulfilled the potential of being better than Messi but the injuries had such a huge impact on his career.
