Golden Ball organizers accused of ‘disrespectful’ moment to Cristiano Ronaldo during ceremony

A moment involving Cristiano Ronaldo during last night’s Golden Ball ceremony has caused controversy among fans on social media, with some labeling the ‘disrespectful’ scene as ‘jokes’.

The 36-year-old striker, who scored 46 goals in 59 games for the club and national team last season, was not present at the annual event in Paris on Monday after rival Lionel Messi secured the seventh Golden Ball.

For the first time since 2007, the former Real Madrid and Juventus player did not appear in the top three of France Football. Instead, Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho finished after the winner, Messi.
Ronaldo’s non-appearance was a big point of discussion all the time. In fact, during the event, France Football’s decision to display a photo of the five-time Golden Ball winner in lingerie alongside Didier Drogban sparked more debate online.

As you can see in the footage, people like Robert Lewandowksi, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe were seen laughing when the image appeared on stage.
Drogba, who was presenting the show alongside French journalist Sandy Heribert, even asked “why” a few moments later.

The moment certainly caused controversy on social media.
