Mohamed Salah is reportedly preparing to leave Liverpool on a free transfer next summer.

The 30-year-old’s contract at Anfield is due to expire in June 2023, and he is currently struggling to come to an agreement with the Merseyside giants over an extension.

Salah allegedly wants a contract in the region of £400,000 a week, but Liverpool are unwilling to break their wage structure, which has led to a break in discussions between the two parties.

According to The Mirror, the Egypt international is unlikely to lower his wage demands, having established himself as one of the leading players in world football during his time at Anfield.

As a result, the attacker is likely to leave Anfield on a free transfer next June, with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain expected to be in the running for his signature.

Liverpool are reportedly still confident that Salah will perform to his best level next season amid the uncertainty surrounding his future, even if he has already made the decision to leave.

The Egyptian’s relationship with the club’s head coach Jurgen Klopp is also allegedly strong, with the German understanding of the situation facing the former Basel youngster.

Salah was in impressive form for the Reds dur ing the 2021-22 campaign, scoring 31 goals and registering 16 assists in 51 appearances in all competitions, as the club won a FA Cup and EFL Cup double.

Liverpool have signed Darwin Nunez from Benfica this summer to boost their attack, while Luis Diaz arrived from Porto in January, scoring six goals and registering five assists in 26 outings in the second half of last term.

Sadio Mane has left for Bayern Munich, though, while Roberto Firmino’s future is also unclear, so Liverpool could start the 2023-24 campaign without the three forwards that have been so key to their success in recent years.

A recent report claimed that Liverpool would be open to selling Salah for £60m during this summer’s transfer window.

However, it is understood that an exit in the current market is ‘very unlikely’, with head coach Klopp not prepared to lose both Mane and Salah in the same window.

The Reds are currently preparing for their pre-season opener against Manchester United on July 12, while they will also face Crystal Palace, RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg and Strasbourg in friendlies this summer, in addition to taking on Manchester City in the Community Shield at the end of July.
