Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has questioned whether the club can still attract the best players, as he has advised them to follow the model of hated rivals Liverpool.

Cantona has warned United that the world’s best players will not move to Old Trafford because they cannot guarantee trophies.

“During the time of Alex Ferguson, if you wanted a player, the best in the world, he would come to Manchester United because they were winning in England and Europe,” said Cantona first, who admitted he was unaware of Weghorst or his move to United.

“Manchester United was the biggest club in the world and they had money to buy any kind of player.”

“Now it’s different because the best players want to play in a team to win trophies and United are not able to pick the best because the best won’t come to United.”

“So you have to be smart. Smart like Liverpool. They got Mane and Salah, not the best players in the world, but with a great team and a great atmosphere, together they won things.”

“And then Mane and Salah became the best players in the world. This is an excellent example for United”, concluded the legend of the Red Devils.
