He joined Milan this summer, but the midfielder says he turned down Barcelona for the Rossoneri

Tijjani Reijnders has been transferred to Milan from the Dutch team AZ Alkmaar just a few days ago.

The Rossoneri paid 19 million euros for his transfer, while the central midfielder has already made his debut in a friendly match against Real Madrid.

However, the Dutchman surprised with his statement, saying that he rejected the transfer to Barcelona only to join Milan.

The 24-year-old admits that he received a phone call from the Catalan coach Xavi Hernandez, but at that moment he had only decided on Milan.

“Is it true that a phone call also came from Xavi? Yes, but I had made my choice. I had spoken with Moncada and Pioli and at that moment I made the final decision, including my family”.

“I had decided that I would play for Milan and I didn’t change my mind,” Reijnders told Corriere dello Sport.

The Dutch representative has taken number 14 at Milan, while expectations are high for him at San Siro.
