Official: Chelsea FC renew Levi Colwill

Chelsea has announced that it has reached an agreement with Levi Colwill for the continuation of the cooperation.

The defender was on loan at Brighton last season before impressing, convincing Mauricio Pochettino this pre-season to keep him in the squad, rejecting offers from the Seagulls and Liverpool.

“Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce that Levi Colwill has signed a new six-year contract, with an option for a further year, for a total of seven years,” the Blues’ statement reads initially.

“An academy graduate who started training with Chelsea aged eight, Colwill has established himself as one of the outstanding young centre-backs in European football and this summer helped England win the European Under-21 Championship.”

“The 20-year-old has played throughout pre-season under coach Mauricio Pochettino and has now extended his stay at Stamford Bridge,” the London club’s statement added.

The defender declared after the extension of the contract: “It was always an easy decision. Growing up, all I’ve known is Chelsea. I have spoken to the coach and he has given me the assurance, the confidence that I needed. He spoke to me not only as a player, but as a person. It has made a big difference.”
