Xavi says he has been impressed with Barcelona’s performance in pre-season, particularly in their 1-0 win against Milan.
Looking at the games, it is clear that some of them have left a good impression on the coach, while there are some of them who have failed to give their best.
But who has shone so far at Barcelona in the pre-season:
Oriol Romeu: The defensive midfielder has been a big surprise for Xavi in these preseason games. The coach has said that he is also a true leader on the field.
Ferran Torres: With two goals in three games, Ferran has cemented his place in the squad ahead of next season. Barca will not sell him this term.
Marc-andre Ter Stegen: You just have to watch the German keeper make a series of acrobatic saves and keep a clean sheet in El Clasico to make up your mind. He is among the best goalkeepers in the world.
Ansu Fati: The 20-year-old has increased and improved his sharpness and this was clearly seen in the pre-season. What better proof than the goal he scored against Milan?
Ez Abde: The winger has shown sharpness, speed, maturity and finishing in pre-season. Xavi has a decision to make soon.
Jules Kounde: We have seen Kounde play at right-back and centre-back in pre-season. He hardly put a foot wrong. Jules can’t sit on the bench!
Fermin Lopez: The Spanish midfielder shocked everyone with a powerful goal in El Clasico. In addition, his passing, speed and all-round play have been excellent. Xavi must be impressed by what he saw of the talent against Real Madrid.
Lamine Yamal: The 16-year-old caused a lot of problems for Milan after coming off the bench in the game. Perhaps he followed Xavi’s instructions before coming into the game.
Who performed poorly:
Sergino Dest: Sources say Barca are finding it harder to sell the American whenever he plays. He had a poor performance against Milan. Barça can even get rid of him by terminating his contract.
Marcos Alonso: The Spaniard appears to be the slowest and most clumsy defender at Barca at the moment. Xavi must ask himself what to do, keep him or sell him.
Sergi Roberto: The midfielder is the oldest member of the squad, but he has failed to impress even after being handed the captain’s armband.
