Lionel Messi’s MLS debut has been postponed after helping Inter Miami reach the quarter-finals of the League Cup.
The Argentine superstar scored twice in the eight-goal thriller between his side and FC Dallas in the round of 16 of the Cup.
His team won on penalties to qualify for the next round, where they will face Charlotte FC – the team they were supposed to face in the next round in MLS.
As they will play in the Cup, their Championship challenge which was due to take place on August 20 has been postponed to a later date to be determined in the future.
“The August 20 MLS regular season match against Charlotte FC has been postponed to a later date to be announced due to further League Cup qualification. “The original tickets secured for the August 20 MLS match will be valid for the new date on which the match will take place,” the club said in a statement.
The world champion has already scored seven goals in just four appearances for his new club.
