West Ham’s deal to sign Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has collapsed.
“Harry respects West Ham and David Moyes, but to be clear there was never an agreement between Harry and West Ham,” reports Sky Sports.
“The process was less advanced than portrayed in the media. For example, at no time has Harry spoken to David Moyes.”
“Harry remains focused on United, he loves the club and believes he will have many opportunities to play this season,” reports the English medium.
Erik ten Hag has always said that Maguire is an important part of the squad and that he is happy for him to stay and fight for his place.
Speaking ahead of the 1-0 win over Wolves on Monday, the Dutchman declared: “He has to fight for his country. He has the ability to be a top-class centre-back and he is the best for England, so why not be the best for us?”
“But he has to prove it. When he’s not confident enough to fight, then he has to leave, then he has to make a decision, but I’m happy with him,” added Ten Hag.
Maguire lost the captain’s armband at United earlier this summer and revealed his “extreme disappointment” at Ten Hag’s decision.
Last week West Ham agreed a fee of €39m to sign Maguire, but the defender will now not be heading to the London Stadium.
