He was punished with a straight red card – how many games will Mac Allister miss at Liverpool

Alexis MacAllister was sent off in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth for a challenge on Ryan Christie.

Under Premier League regulations, straight red cards for dangerous tackles always result in a three-match ban.

This means Mac Allister will miss the games against Newcastle (August 27), Aston Villa (September 3) and Wolves (September 16).

“We have to talk about it again”, said Jurgen Klopp about Mac Allister’s red card.

Liverpool have the right to appeal the red card. If they succeed, the Argentine midfielder’s suspension will be overturned.

If the Premier League upholds the referee’s decision, however, the ban could be increased to four matches if the appeal is deemed ‘frivolous’.
