The president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, apologized for kissing the player Jenni Hermoso on the cheek, during the awarding of gold medals for the World Cup won.
According to the biggest Spanish sports media, Marca, he did not do it with enough sincerity.
Accordingly, the well-known newspaper writes today that Rubiales’ next step should be his resignation.
“Rubiales no longer has the right to apologize or defend himself. To avoid embarrassment, it is best for him to resign by Friday,” writes Marca.
We remember that on Sunday the Spanish beat England with a score of 1-0 in the World Cup final, and before lifting the winner’s cup, the players received one gold medal each.
Rubiales was also there, and when Hermoso passed, he embraced him and pulled his head towards him with his hands and kissed him on the lips, after which he laughed.
As expected, the televised footage quickly went viral on social media, with Hermoso later in the locker room on an Instagram live stream, laughingly saying he didn’t like it.
The Spanish national team then asked the Supreme Court of Sports to investigate the matter and protect her and her colleagues from unwanted attacks and abuse like this.
