Raphael Varane could be out for up to six weeks with an injury, according to Sky Sports.
Varane was substituted at half-time in the win over Nottingham Forest, although Erik ten Hag’s post-match comments suggested the move was a precautionary measure.
“He had complaints, we didn’t want to risk him,” said the Dutch coach when asked about the Frenchman’s injury.
“We know we have Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, good replacements. So we take no risk, but what the complaint is and whether it is really bad, we do not know. We have to wait”.
Varane’s injury could pave the way for Victor Lindelof to play more now.
The Swedish defender has yet to start a game this season and is now hoping to prove himself.
