Napoli criticizes the media and Kvaratskhelia’s agents for talks about contract renewal

Napoli called reports about Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s contract extension negotiations a slander, blaming the media for having “the player’s agents as their only source”.

The Serie A champions issued a rather aggressive statement on Twitter on Tuesday regarding the potential extension of the Georgian’s contract.

“Having the player’s agent as the only source, some media outlets continue to report the alleged negotiations for the extension of Kvaratskhelia’s contract,” said Napoli’s response.

“It is slander. “No one from Napoli, Mauro Meluso, Maurizio Micheli, Aurelio de Laurentiis or Andrea Chiavelli, has ever discussed the possible extension of the player’s contract (whose contract expires in four years).”

The Georgian star joined Napoli for around €10m in 2022 and inspired their 2022-23 Serie A title-winning season with 12 goals and 13 assists in 34 league games.

The 22-year-old currently earns around €1.2 million at the Stadio Maradona and Italian media had reported that Napoli would offer him a new salary of around €3-4 million. However, this does not appear to be the case as the Partenopei have confirmed that they have never discussed a potential new deal with the Georgian’s representatives.

Kvara had missed the 2023-24 Serie A opener against Frosinone with a muscle problem but provided an assist for captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo in the 2-0 win over Sassuolo.
