Italian midfielder Jorginho has thanked Arsenal fans and team-mates for their support following his mistake in the London derby against Tottenham on Sunday.

Jorginho lost the ball in a dangerous position, allowing Tottenham to score in the second half.

The former Napoli and Hellas Verona player apologized to fans on social media, but also thanked them.

“A painful mistake today, but seeing how everyone reacted after my mistake, to support me, my teammates, the coach, the staff and you Arsenal fans,” Jorginho wrote on Instagram.

“It motivates me even more to work hard, because you all deserve the best version of myself,” concluded the Italian.

Several Arsenal players, and the club itself, commented on Jorginho’s post to encourage him.

Jorginho was not invited by the new coach of Italy, Luciano Spalletti, for the September matches and it remains to be seen if he will get the chance to play for the Italian national team in the future.

Spalletti explained his decision last month by saying the Arsenal midfielder has not played enough for his club to be invited to Italy.

Bryan Cristante and Manuel Locatelli were the players Spalletti called up for the games against North Macedonia and Ukraine earlier this month.

The 31-year-old made his debut with Italy’s jersey in 2016 and has so far scored 5 goals in 48 appearances with the national team.
