The only player who can save Pochettino from being sacked by Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino is looking for ways to unlock the talent trapped within Mykhailo Mudryk.

The Ukrainian has struggled since his €100m move from Shakhtar Donetsk in January, but has started to look more threatening in recent weeks.

He was applauded by the fans after an improved performance in the 1-0 Carabao Cup win over Brighton last week and is expected to make another start, against Fulham, tonight.

An injury crisis at Chelsea has left Pochettino without at least 10 players and has given Mudryk a number of games to get back into form.

Mudryk has worked tirelessly on the training ground to prove himself after an underwhelming start.

The 22-year-old has only a limited command of English and his adjustment to a new country has not been helped by the instability at Chelsea.

Pochettino is now in his third manager at Stamford Bridge and his confidence has dipped again this season after impressing at the European Under-21 Championship in the summer.

Mudryk is a blocked talent at the moment and tactically he is not yet adapted to what Pochettino wants from him. Despite his impressive dribbling and shooting, he has struggled with his defensive duties.

Pochettino, however, is confident the winger will do well.

“He is unique”, said the Argentine coach. “It’s a good challenge for him and for us (the coaching staff).”

“Misha is a very talented player, but you have to go very slowly with him. He is now trying to be more open and trying to adapt and be more involved in every single situation, not only on the field but also off the field.”

“He is making a massive effort to try to integrate himself and understand better what it means to play as a team,” added Pochettino.

Mudryk spends hours working on physicality and speed. There have been concerns that he has been spending too much time in the gym and Chelsea have cut back on his extra strength sessions in a bid to help his conditioning.
