Raul refuses to become the coach of the European giant

The former striker of Schalke, Raul has rejected an offer to become the coach of the German team, the Spanish media have reported.

Thomas Reis was sacked as Schalke coach last week with Gelsenkirchen currently sitting 16th in Bundesliga 2.

Schalke turned their attention to their former star Raul to offer him this position, but as reported by the Spanish medium “Sport”, the Spanish legend has rejected this offer.

Raul signed for Schalke as a free player from Real Madrid in 2010, where he made 97 appearances for the German club, scoring 40 goals.

He helped Schalke reach the semi-finals of the Champions League in his first season in the Bundesliga and the quarter-finals of the Europa League the following year.

Raul is currently in charge of Real Madrid Castilla and it is believed that he would prefer to stay there rather than move to Germany.

Raul, who has won six La Liga titles and three Champions League titles as a Real Madrid player, took the reins of Castilla in 2020. He has led the team in 138 official matches, winning 59 of them.

The 46-year-old also guided them to winning the UEFA Youth League in 2020.

Schalke will now evaluate other options for the team’s bench as they aim to avoid relegation from the second tier of German football.
