Barcelona didn’t play that well against Porto – Xavi shows what they missed

Barcelona collected a hard-fought three points against Porto on Wednesday night, a result that made it two wins from two in the Champions League this season. However, it was far from a quality performance.

Xavi Hernandez discussed the encounter when he spoke to the media after the match, where he praised his side’s performance over the period. He was pleased with the first-half performance, but less so with what Barcelona produced in the second half.

Xavi also admitted his side struggled to maintain much control in the match and cited the absences of Pedri and Frenkie de Jong as a contributing factor.

“Without using it as an excuse, today our best players to keep the ball were injured,” the Barcelona coach said first.

Xavi also dealt with the curious case of Lamine Yamal, who missed the match for nine minutes after leaving to use the toilet.

“Lamine Yamal was not well, he had an illness. He had been telling me for a while. I took advantage of a break in the game to tell him to be quick and go to the toilet, but in the end they told me that he would not be able to return to the field”, added Xavi.

Xavi was certainly not too happy with the performance, but he will be pleased with the result in Porto, which sees Barcelona in a great position to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
