Luka Modric is out of Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti’s plans this season. The veteran midfielder has amassed just 391 first-team minutes in nine appearances so far.
The Croatian has started four games, appearing as a substitute in five. He was left on the bench twice more, and the 38-year-old has not scored a single goal so far.
Modric was asked about this new reality in a press conference: “Well, of course it’s a new situation for me not to play as much as before and as much as I would like.”
“You know that I always want to play, I don’t want to have holidays, I want to play because then I feel better and that’s how I prepare best for the matches.”
“This is the situation now and there may be some pluses for the future, so we will see, but I don’t want this, I want to play, if necessary, every three days, because I feel good physically.”
“It would be a different story if I didn’t feel well, but I feel good physically and mentally, I want to play.”
“Everything that happens around me is a normal process, so I just accept it like that and I have to mentally prepare for this situation, accept it and move on,” added the Croatian legend.
While Modric wants to play more, there are players who complain that there are too many matches in football and no one is thinking about them, but to think that they should look more at the current situation of the Croatian midfielder.
