As a result of poor finances, Barcelona do not have much leeway in terms of improving their squad during the January transfer window.
Despite this, they still aim to do so by bringing in striker Vitor Roque, six months after a deal was agreed with Brazilian club Athletico Paranaense.
Barcelona were unable to sign Roque immediately due to Financial Fair Play restrictions, but there is optimism that he could join Xavi Hernandez’s side for the second half of the 2023/24 season.
Xavi is keen to have Roque available, but that will depend on ensuring that room can be made in their financial budget.
If they can do that, the Brazilian will join the team, as his agent, Andre Curry, revealed to RAC1 that all parties have agreed for the player to move to Catalonia in January.
“Everything is ready for Vitor Roque to sign with Barcelona in January 2024. Everything has been agreed with the clubs and the player. No one has told me otherwise, so Vitor Roque will be in Barcelona’s sports project in January 2024,” Cury initially said.
Cury also revealed that Roque is ahead of schedule in his recovery from the ankle injury he suffered against Internacional last month.
“Vitor Roque is recovering very well and will be ready in four weeks. He is a young, strong boy and we thank God that everything went very well”, concluded the attacker’s agent.
Barcelona, and Xavi in particular, will be absolutely delighted to see Roque join the club at the next opportunity. In less than two months, the 18-year-old should wear the Blaugrana colors for the first time.
