Bayern Munich want to replace goalkeeper and team captain Manuel Neuer with Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel.
According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Bayern have decided that Kobel will eventually replace the 37-year-old, who is currently recovering from an injury he suffered during his winter break while skiing.
Kobel recently renewed his contract with Dortmund which does not include a release clause until 2028, increasing his salary as well.
However, this does not rule out a possible departure in the near future. It is reported that Dortmund could demand up to €70 million from their rivals if they are willing to secure the services of the Swiss goalkeeper.
Bayern and Kobel’s agents are said to have been in constant contact over a possible transfer.
Bayern had also signed Yann Sommer in January, however, his adventure at the German giants was short-lived and the Swiss ended up leaving the club this summer to join Inter in Serie A.
It remains to be seen whether the Bavarians will pay the amount demanded by Dortmund, or sit down to negotiate a reduction in the price.
