Newcastle United have announced that Sandro Tonali has their full support.
The former Milan midfielder was interviewed by local prosecutors for suspected illegal betting.
In a statement, the English club announced: “Newcastle United can confirm that Sandro Tonali is being investigated by the Italian Prosecutor’s Office and the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) in relation to illegal betting activities.”
“Sandro is fully committed to the investigation and will continue to cooperate with all relevant authorities.”
“He and his family will continue to receive the full support of the club. Due to this ongoing process, Sandro and Newcastle United are unable to provide further comment at this time,” concludes the English club’s response.
Tonali can be punished up to three years with exclusion from football, as he bet even when he was part of the Rossoneri.
