Thierry Henry’s brilliant answer when asked who should win the 2023 Ballon d’Or

French legend Thierry Henry had a brilliant answer when asked who should win the Ballon d’Or this year.

Last year, the famous award was presented to French star Karim Benzema after he enjoyed a magnificent season with Spanish La Liga side Real Madrid.

Ahead of this year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris on Monday, the likes of Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe are the front-runners to pick up the prize.

However, it has been widely reported that Argentine legend Messi will win his eighth Ballon d’Or after a stunning year.

Messi inspired Argentina to World Cup triumph in Qatar and also enjoyed a fine individual and team season with Paris Saint Germain.

Ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League coverage on CBS Sports, Henry was asked if the Ballon d’Or should go to Messi and the answer was brilliant.

“I mean a lot of people can argue about that, but for me if you win the World Cup, like he did, we can talk about what happened in the final,” Henry initially said.

“As a Frenchman, I was a bit disappointed with the way it ended, but you can’t say it’s not deserved if he wins it.”

“A lot of people can claim that Man City players, Haaland and some other players can also say ‘why not me?’ but you can’t say it’s not fair if you win it.”

At this point, his colleague Jamie Carragher asked Henry: “Who do you think deserves to win it?”.

Henry replied: “For me, Messi. Goodbye. It’s over.”
