Manchester United want Brazilian striker Gabriel Barbosa in January and are ready to offer Antony’s card on loan.

The Red Devils have struggled to score goals of late, with star man Marcus Rashford struggling to find the back of the net. Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Anthony Martial have also minimally contributed to the team’s goal tally.

United’s desire to strengthen their attack has been exacerbated by protracted negotiations over Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s proposed purchase of a 25 per cent stake in the club.

With Financial Fair Play regulations to adhere to, Manchester United are now considering cut-price deals to bring new names to Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Mirror, Gabriel Barbosa, a 27-year-old striker who has scored 18 goals for Flamengo this season, is the main target.

His contract expires in 2024, making him available for a £20m fee.

In a possible swap deal, United are open to loaning out Brazilian compatriot Antony, who joined the club from Ajax in 2022 for a substantial fee.

Antony, however, has struggled to make an impact this season and is yet to open his goalscoring account.

As United explore the Barbosa option, they are also considering other names, including Porto’s Mehdi Taremi and duo Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen.

The January transfer window promises to be an intriguing period for the Red Devils as they look to address their goalscoring woes and restore their position at the top of English football.
