“He is unstoppable”, the star of Real Madrid talks about the duel with Messi

The Uruguayan midfielder, Federico Valverde, has revealed in an interview that he does not know how to stop Lionel Messi, before the match against Argentina on Thursday.

Uruguay take on Argentina in their 2026 World Cup qualifier this week and their captain has admitted it will be impossible to stop Messi.

The Inter Miami and Argentina star has not played in an official match for almost a month.

Uruguay are currently second in the CONMEBOL qualifying cycle, five points behind Argentina and ahead of Venezuela and Brazil, thanks to goals scored.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side got a big win over Brazil when they met recently in the World Cup qualifiers.

In an interview before the match, Valverde said that he does not know how to stop Messi and that he has never done so when the two in question faced each other in La Liga.

“I don’t know how to stop Messi, I could never stop him. He is one of the best players in the world,” said the Real Madrid star.

Valverde also stopped to say a few words about Uruguay legend Luis Suarez.

“From the first moment we met, Suarez has shown me the rules and values he must follow in order to succeed with the national team. He is an idol for Uruguayans,” added Valverde.

Uruguay will play two key matches this week, first on the road against Argentina, who are still unbeaten, and then at home against Bolivia, who are winless so far.
