Mourinho targets the transfer of two centre-backs, targets coming from the Premier League’s big clubs

Eric Dier, Trevoh Chalobah and Jakub Kiwior are among Roma’s targets for the January transfer window as Chris Smalling’s recovery time remains uncertain while Evan N’Dicka will play at the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast.

Jose Mourinho is already dealing with a host of injuries in defense as Smalling has been sidelined for several weeks, making just three appearances this season, while Marash Kumbulla will return in December after a cruciate ligament injury.

With N’Dicka traveling to his home country, Ivory Coast, for AFCON 2024 in January, Mourinho will need at least one new centre-back and according to Wednesday’s print edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Portuguese coach is targeting some Premier League players.

Dier (Tottenham), Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea) and Jakub Kiwior (Arsenal) have been monitored by the Giallorossi and according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Dier is Mourinho’s first choice to strengthen Roma’s defense in the winter transfer window.

Dier’s contract in London expires in June 2024, so it may not be impossible for Roma to strike a deal with the Englishman and Spurs even if Dier is getting more playing time now, following Micky van de Ven’s injury.

Sarr, Chalobah and Kiwior, a former Spezia defender, are all struggling to play at Chelsea and Arsenal, so the Giallorossi could try to get one of them on loan.

According to the report, Finn Van Breemen (Basel) and Oumar Solet (RB Salzburg) have been offered to Roma, but both players are not believed to be among the club’s priorities. However, negotiations for a new centre-back will soon begin at the Stadio Olimpico.
