Despite rumors coming out of Barcelona, the Blaugrana will not be able to afford the signings of Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo next summer, who are on loan from Atletico Madrid and Manchester City without an option to buy.
Sporting director Deco told the press in Catalonia on Monday that their aim was to sign Felix and Cancelo next summer.
Despite the fact that the Blaugrana are around €130m over their salary cap at present, and are aiming to bring in Vitor Roque for €30m plus €31m in bonuses, Deco believes it is viable.
However, the newspaper Marca does not believe that something like this will happen. They claim that at most one of the Portuguese stars will stay in Montjuic next season. City are likely to let Cancelo, now 29, for €30m, and being the cheaper of the two, has the better chance of signing permanently with the Blaugrana.
Felix, meanwhile, will not be allowed to leave Atletico Madrid for less than €70m, with both bringing high wages with them. Felix also has a long contract until 2029, meaning spending on him is likely beyond their means. After all, Barcelona will struggle to spend 100 million euros plus wages for the “Joao” duo.
With Felix, it seems like their only hope is to make a move similar to last summer. If Felix refuses to move anywhere other than Barcelona, then the Portuguese may be able to convince Los Rojiblancos to accept a loan offer once again.
Unhappy with how things turned out this summer, they may be willing to keep Felix at the Metropolitano as a rotation option.
