Real Madrid are linked with a surprise transfer of Icardi

Galatasaray striker Mauro Icardi has ended up on the radar of Real Madrid, a club which is said to want to transfer in the January transfer window to increase attacking options.

Real Madrid brought in Joselu Mato this summer as the back-up striker Carlo Ancelotti had been looking for, but after Karim Benzema surprised everyone by leaving for Saudi Arabia, they failed to bring in an alternative to the Frenchman.

Reports in Italy say Ancelotti is keen for Los Blancos to make amends in the upcoming January transfer window.

With Vinicius Junior out until February due to injury, huge demands have been placed on Jude Bellingham to score goals. He is likely to start behind Joselu Mato and Rodrygo Goes for the next few months, while Brahim Diaz is the only real alternative to the Englishman.

According to Tuttomercatoweb , Ancelotti has sought Galatasaray striker Mauro Icardi as an emergency signing in attack.

The Argentine has 15 goals and 3 assists in 20 appearances this season and is available for 15 million euros.

It would be a surprise if Los Blancos went into the market to cover their injuries, something they have shied away from in recent years.

Around a decade ago, the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor and Javier Hernandez came to support their strikers at the time, but both were short-term deals.

Likewise, Icardi is a zone striker as his best skill, which is relatively similar to Joselu.
