Xavi has revealed his admiration for striker Alvaro Morata and revealed how he had spoken to him about a possible move to Barcelona.

The Barcelona coach has confirmed that he had a conversation with the Atletico Madrid star and expressed his desire for him to join Barcelona.

He has also revealed his admiration for the Spanish striker and his desire to bring him to the Blaugrana, but unfortunately the move never materialised.

“It’s true that I wanted to sign him. It was an opportunity. I was talking to him and I wanted him in my team, but it couldn’t happen,” Xavi told reporters.

“He is a striker that I like a lot. Morata is a great striker. He works hard for the team, attacks spaces well. I really like it a lot. With him and Griezmann, Atletico have a perfect attacking duo”, said the Spanish technician.

The Spanish giants were reported to have tried to sign Morata in January 2021 when he was then on loan at Juventus from Atletico Madrid.

The former Chelsea striker did not have many minutes at the Italian club and was considering the possibility of returning to Atletico before making a move to Camp Nou.

The Bianconeri did not want to release Morata at that time and therefore his transfer to the Catalans did not happen.

The 31-year-old has been in superb form for Atletico this season, scoring 12 goals in 17 appearances across all competitions, with seven of those coming in La Liga, the same number as Lewandowski.

Morata will certainly start tomorrow’s (Sunday) challenge against Barcelona from the first minute, which will be played at “Montjuic” starting at 21:00.
