Left Real Madrid to join Man United – the player surprises with his confession

Manchester United defender Alvaro Fernandez, who is on loan at Granada, says he could see a career path at the English club.

Fernandez is on loan at the Spanish side from United, where he was transferred from Real Madrid as a teenager.

He told Athletic about part of his journey: “At that time, there was Brandon Williams and Luke Shaw and there was no other defender.”

“Manchester (United) is completely different from Real Madrid. You lived with the pros – you’d come down for breakfast and bump into Marcus Rashford.”

“I was lucky to start very well in England. They gave me the best youth player award (reserve player of the year, in May 2022) and supported me a lot.”

“It was Juan Mata, Edinson Cavani, David de Gea, who pushed me, encouraged me and took care of me a lot. I have no complaints about that. In Madrid, maybe it’s more divided,” Fernandez continued.
