Mikel Arteta reveals what Declan Rice told him before joining Arsenal

Declan Rice has become almost every Arsenal fan’s favorite player despite joining the Londoners this summer.

The English midfielder has miraculously replaced Granit Xhaka in the deeper role, while also contributing to the attack with his smart forward runs.

Mikel Arteta has acknowledged Rice’s influence on his side in a recent interview with Goal, saying he is very intelligent.

“Rice is extremely intelligent to read situations, to break up the play, to win duels – decisive duels in certain areas of the field that allow us to counter and advance in really dangerous situations.”

“He’s really humble, funny, really hardworking. He is extremely dedicated in everything he wants to do. Declan wants to win everything he does. Really easy, he’s integrated into the team in a really positive way,” said Arteta.

Next, the Spanish coach revealed some behind-the-scenes from the conversations he had with Rice before the Englishman moved to the Emirates Stadium.

“I was really positive about it because when I spoke to him, he mentioned to me many times from day one, ‘I just want to play for Arsenal and I want to play with you’ and he kept his word until the moment last and we were good enough to get it,” concluded Arteta.

The 24-year-old has played 22 games for Arsenal so far, scoring three goals and assisting two others.
