Who is better, Zidane or Mourinho? Here is what Marcelo say

Back in 2010, Jose Mourinho made the move to Real Madrid and it was seen as a perfect ploy by Los Blancos to help them challenge their bitter rivals, Barcelona.

However, the Portuguese manager’s three-year stint in the Spanish capital yielded little success, claiming just one La Liga title and a Copa Del Rey.

Real failed to perform in the Champions League and in 2013, they bidded farewell to perhaps their most pragmatic manager in the new millennium.

Carlo Ancelotti managed to seal ‘La Decima’ but even he was seen to be not good enough for Florentino Perez and then, Rafa Benitez came in for an ill-fated spell at the Bernabeu.

Then, Los Blancos made their smartest decision in decades as they promoted club legend Zinedine Zidane from their Castilla side into the main hot seat.

He has since gone on to lift two Champions League trophies and a La Liga title in just one-and-a-half seasons in charge.

Many believe the Frenchman to be the decisive factor in their success and Brazilian left-back Marcelo is in agreement, saying that Zidane is better than current Manchester United boss, Mourinho.

Speaking to the press prior to the UEFA Super Cup, Marcelo said, per Marca: “I played under Mourinho and he was great.

“He showed us we have to fight.

“With Zidane it is the same but the difference is the trophies and his inspiration. ”

Strong words from Marcelo, ones that Madristatas will love as Mourinho is not the most popular face in the Spanish capital.

Zidane, on the other hand, is perhaps the most popular and will surely enjoy a prolonged reign in football’s most prestigious job.

The two clubs actually met in the United States during pre-season, a game remembered for Anthony Martial’s sensational assist for Jesse Lingard.

However, this time, much more is at stake and both managers will be desperate for a victory.
