Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez joked this week that he will try to convince Lionel Messi to join English club Aston Villa.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward is likely to leave the French club on a free transfer this summer.
Messi’s contract expires at the end of June and there are offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia, while Barcelona are also keen to bring him back to the club.
“I would bring him to Aston Villa,” Martinez smiled and joked in an interview with ESPN Argentina.
“I’d tempt him with some mate (a South American drink), I’d grill him every weekend, I’d ask people to make him little flags, and he’d do just fine.”
“We will reduce my salary for Messi if necessary”, concluded the Argentinian goalkeeper.
