Barcelona’s new signing Ilkay Gundogan has been left frustrated and confused by constant time-wasting, fouls and attempts to deceive the referee in La Liga.
According to Xavier Bosch of Mundo Deportivo, Gundogan was surprised by the simulations and provocations of the opposition in his La Liga debut against Getafe without any serious punishment from the referee.
Against Getafe, the ball was in play only in 62 minutes of the 97 minutes played and this has disappointed the German midfielder.
In that match, Damian Suarez elbowed the German midfielder and went unpunished, while Raphinha was sent off for a less serious offence.
A similar phenomenon was experienced in the match against Cadiz where Gundogan was fouled a lot, with players often trying to fool the referee.
Gundogan is more used to life in the Premier League, where fouls, time-wasting and simulations are punished more severely.
