Maguire’s mother hits out at ‘fans, pundits and media’ over shameful abuse of Man Utd defender

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire’s mother Zoe has hit out at ‘disgraceful’ comments made about her son, blaming football fans, pundits and the media.

During England’s 3-1 friendly win over Scotland at Hampden Park on Tuesday, Maguire was jeered by the Scottish fans every time he touched the ball after coming on as a second-half substitute.

Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate was furious after the game, claiming the taunts were a result of his past treatment in English football.

“It’s a joke. I’ve never known a player to be treated like that. Not by the Scottish fans, by our commentators, the pundits, whatever. It’s beyond anything I’ve ever seen.”

“He’s been an absolute stalwart for us in the second most successful English team for decades, he’s been absolutely a key part of that,” Southgate said.

Now, Maguire’s mother, Zoe, has spoken out about the criticism her son has received, taking aim at her son’s detractors.

“As a mother, seeing the level of negative and abusive comments my son is receiving from some fans, pundits and the media is disgraceful and completely unacceptable for any walk of life, never mind someone who works for club and country. his”.

“I was in the stands as usual, what has been created is not acceptable, for nothing! I understand that in the world of football there are ups and downs, positives and negatives, but what Harry gets has gone far beyond ‘football’.”

“To me, to see him go through what he’s going through is not okay. I would hate to see other parents or players go through this in the future, especially the young boys and girls breaking through the ranks today.”

“Harry has a big heart and it’s good that he’s mentally strong and can handle it as others might not be able to. I don’t wish this kind of abuse on anyone!” Maguire’s mother wrote on Instagram.
